We take pride in the food we serve. Meals are prepared in our kitchen daily by the owners, who, along with the staff, often eat the same food we serve the kids. Many of our meals are so popular the children ask for "thirds". We can tell you from experience that preschoolers will happily eat eggs, broccoli, and cantaloupe. One parent told us that her younger son asks for baby carrots instead of French fries when they go to McDonalds. Although we have always liked to cook, cooking for a preschool has its own challenges. Not long after we bought the school, we hit upon the major inspiration for our meals. Our elder daughter, 6 years old at the time, loved to watch Rachel Ray on the Food Network channel, so we decided to surprise her by taking her to meet Rachel at a book signing in downtown San Jose. As we were looking through Rachel's cookbooks, we discovered her 30 Minute Meals for Kids had many recipes that were perfect for a preschool, and it has become the core of our menu. We tone down the spiciness of the dishes, but we serve full flavored foods. It's important to broaden children's palates with a variety of tastes. We use a minimum of processed and prepackaged foods and strive for a healthy, fresh, and varied menu with little transfatty acid and processed sugar. For example, we mainly use chicken breasts and ground turkey for our meats, butter and olive oil instead of margarine, and milk or water instead of juices. Menus rotate on a monthly basis, with seasonal variations. The tuition includes breakfast (served until 8:00AM), lunch, and a snack after the midday nap. © 2005 Reticulated Ventures |
